Infant Aquatics

We aim for babies to:
• Enjoy the lesson in the closeness of familiar arms
• Become gradually more independent and capable in the water
• Learn skills such as breath control (blowing bubbles)
• Assisted floatation leading towards independent flotation on front and back
• Simple movement through the water
• Preparation for accidental immersion and recovery (jump in and get back to the edge)
• Social and language skills are also enhanced and the bond between baby and adult is strengthened
• Pre – school teachers also have infant Aquatic Accreditation.

Tadpoles

Age: 6-12 months
Class Size: maximum 10
Instructor: Always in water
Learning objectives:
• Become familiar with activities in an aquatic environment
• Gaining a sense of buoyancy
• Feel secure and content in the water
• Working on familiarising the sensation of submersion of the chin and mouth area
• Experience assisted movement in the water with the use of floatation aids
• Becoming familiar with routines that promote an awareness of the edge of the pool

Froggies

Age: 12-24 months
Class Size: maximum 10
Instructor: Always in water
Learning objectives:
• Beginning to explore the water more independently
• Using a variety of assisted entries into the water
• Explore methods of propulsion through the water with and without assistance
• Using floatation aids to gain a feeling of buoyancy
• Becoming familiar with the sensation of submersion of the face
• Using basic arm and leg actions to generate a feeling of movement

Toadies

Age: 24 months and up
Class Size: maximum 10
Instructor: Always in water
Learning objectives:
• Beginning to work on moving independently on front and back with a kickboard while being assisted
• Becoming familiar with self facial submersion and breath holding skills
• Can enter and exit the water safely using prompts from the instructor
• Explore a wide range of in water manoeuvres, including turning and rolling over
• Working on becoming less dependent on parent being in the pool
